Jessica Backman reached historical podium spot

This weekend, the second event in the TCR Europe 2019 took place at Hockenheimring and racing siblings Jessica and Andreas Backman scored high points despite tough and even competitors. Jessica also became historical when she reached the podium of TCR Europe as the first woman in history.

Hockenheimring (Hockenheim, Germany) is a historical and advanced Formula 1 track, which has hosted the finest titles of many racing stars over the years. This weekend, the TCR Europe 2019 took place and its 32 elite drivers entered the German stadium for the championship's second event. Participants and siblings Andreas and Jessica Backman started at 13th and 11th place. Deep analyzes, hard training and really good speed would, however, give the siblings high scores – and Jessica a historical podium spot.

History's first woman ever to reach podium in TCR Europe
Jessica Backman managed to qualify for a ninth place and therefore started in the first starting row in race two, which was a first for her. The first race was eventful and overtaking’s followed by good speed, placed Jessica at a 13th place. In the second race, Jessica started second and with continued good speed she not only reached a prestigious podium place: she also became the first woman through history to reach the podium in TCR Europe
– It was a fantastic feeling to cross the finish line! I exceeded my own expectations and would like to thank the entire team Target Competition and Hyundai Motorsport for all hard work, Jessica Backman says.

Fastest lap in race two
The race weekend also gave her brother, Andreas Backman, a positive outcome and despite tough and even competitors, he managed to score impressive points. Both the driving and the car worked perfectly during the qualifying, unlike the tough training races, and in race two on Sunday, Andreas scored the fastest lap of the race
– I'm very happy with the weekend, where I managed to advance from an 11th place to a 5th place I the championship, before the next race in Belgium in two weeks (June 7th-9th). Also, big congratulations to my sister and thanks to team Target Competition team and Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, Andreas Backman says.
