Affirmations and (possible) tools for social change in Tony Karlsson Savci's master exhibition Self Healing: Creating Your Health

Self Healing: Creating Your Health (1986), 2020
Guided meditation and workshop with Tony Karlsson Savci

At Galleri Konstfack 11–18 January, open 12–17

Guided Meditation
I am memorizing, embodying and performing the self-help tape and health audio program Self Healing: Creating Your Health as a found object recited live in the gallery. Originally recorded in 1986, this program was written and narrated by American motivational author and professional speaker Louise L. Hay (1926-2017). The tape is also re-recorded and will play over and over during opening hours.

According to Hay positive affirmations help create new thought patterns that dissolve disease in the body and build perfect vibrant health. In the sequence of thought-speech-action, affirmations are believed to play an essential role by breaking patterns of negative thoughts, negative speech, and in turn, negative actions.

Workshop
Following each guided meditation, I am inviting the participants to stay and join me in a workshop where we will collectively question and transfigure the narrative of Hays’ Self Healing: Creating Your Health by informing it with our own vocabularies and experiences. Together, we will use the transcript of the meditation to look into the different meanings behind the notion of positive affirmations and how their internalization influence our muscle memory. With an intersectional understanding we consider the ethics and ideas around self-love, wellness and healing, and, if affirmations can be used as a tool for social change.

For schedule, please see image above. Between the meditation and workshop soup will be served for sustenance (free of charge). Written and spoken language is English.
