Grand opening of Valkyria

Pressmeddelande   •   Aug 10, 2018 11:55 CEST

Today was the grand opening of Liseberg’s new record-breaking roller coaster Valkyria. Liseberg’s biggest investment ever will be both the highest and longest dive coaster in Europe – and have the highest drop in Scandinavia of 50 meters. A large number of thrilled guests gathered at 11 AM on August 10, 2018 to watch the ribbon being cut before enjoying their first ride.

Liseberg’s newest addition to the amusement park is the new Boliger & Mabillard Dive Coaster, Valkyria. 18 riders in three rows sit with their legs dangling free. After a 45 degree climb they find themselves at the highest point, 47 metres in the air. Just as the train is about to go over the edge the trains pauses, and passengers are suspended in the air for a couple of seconds, facing down before they at 105 km/h plummet vertically 50 metres into an underground tunnel.

Enthusiasts, members of European Coaster Club, travelled from all over Europe to take part in the official opening and premiere of Valkyria. Jim Terneborg, Julia Terneborg, Ted von Knorring and Fredrik Haglund sat in one of the first trains that launched from the station at 11 AM. They gave their top reviews:

“I have gone on over 500 roller coaster”, said Jim Terneborg. “Of all the dive coasters I have tried, Valkyria gets top marks.”

The building of Valkyria, Liseberg’s largest, most expensive and most complex attraction to date started September 2016. The ground work, including digging the tunnel, has taken its time. But, today the new roller coaster finally officially opened.

“It’s been a complicated project, but the end result has been worth all the wait in the world”, said Liseberg’s CEO Andreas Andersen. “We have built a new Liseberg icon – a new favourite for the guests that puts Liseberg and Gothenburg on the map and will attract visitors for years to come.”

To ride Valkyria, one is required to be at least 132 cm, 7 years old and have a ride pass or four ride coupons. Valkyria will be open for the rest of the summer season as well as Halloween at Liseberg.
