Natural Cycles and Merck collaborate on Digitalization and Fertility Awareness

  • Digitalization offers new ways of delivering healthcare

Stockholm, Sweden, April 21st, 2016 – Merck, a leading science and technology company, today announced that Natural Cycles AB and Merck AB, the subsidiary in Sweden of the Merck group, are joining forces to generate new knowledge on how the increased use of digital tools in society will affect how women relate to their bodies and connect to their natural reproduction cycles.

Digitalization is rapidly changing the world, industries and sectors. The intimacy of the smartphone is also changing how we relate to our bodies and how healthcare is delivered. “We saw that there was limited knowledge among the stakeholders on how the increased use of digital tools like Natural Cycles will impact how women over time build knowledge of their natural biological rhythms. We are proud to collaborate with Merck, starting in Sweden. Merck has a long legacy in fertility awareness and combine competences in biology and new technologies.” says Elina Berglund-Scherwitzl, CTO and co-founder of Natural Cycles.

“Natural Cycles is an example on how digital medicine is poised to transform biomedical research and clinical practice. As a global science and technology company we are interested in how this group of clinically validated and rigorously tested technologies will impact society, healthcare and benefit patients. ” says Mats Berggren, who co-ordinates the digital health activities of Merck in Sweden.

The collaboration will generate new knowledge through a series of stakeholder meetings, discussion groups and generation of hypothesizes for future scientific research and development.
