Ezra Shales, Ph.D. is the author of two books, Made in Newark (Rutgers University Press, 2010), which explores craft as an anchor of regional identity in progressive-era New Jersey, and The Shape of Craft (Reaktion, 2017), which has prompted a reviewer to identify him as a “philosopher of the factory floor.” When he was 12, he wrote a letter to the manufacturer asking how M&Ms were coated so evenly. Their response was that it was their intellectual property but someday he hopes to discover a person or archive willing to divulge that knowledge.

In between objects with agency and complex networks of systems, the work of anonymous hands often lies unmapped, but tantalizing to investigate. This presentation savors the productive confusion that lies at the intersection of design, craft, and art in everyday life, often in objects a pedestrian might encounter or in the presence or a skilled person at work.

Föredraget hålls på engelska.

Fri entré till kvällsevenemanget. Ingen förbokning.
