​Psychiatric researcher awarded Natur & Kultur’s academic textbook grant

Natur & Kultur’s academic textbook grant of 100 000 Swedish crowns has been awarded to the researcher, doctor and psychiatric specialist Christoffer Rahm for his manuscript Neurovetenskaplig psykiatri (Neuroscientific psychiatry). This is the first time the grant has been awarded.

– We are very happy to be able to award a grant with an academic focus. Natur & Kultur’s mission is to strengthen democracy and tolerance through education and inspiration, and each year we award a number of grants and scholarships for that purpose, says Lena Forssén, publishing director for Natur & Kultur Akademisk.

The academic textbook grant aims to support promising and ambitious authors by giving them time to write. Eligible to apply are those intending to write a textbook in the Swedish language for students of nursing, psychology, social work, teaching, pedagogy and other related professions.

According to the jury’s statement, Christoffer Rahm’s textbook will contribute to bringing the fields of classical psychiatry and modern neuroscience together.

– This is a groundbreaking foundational textbook in psychiatry that takes the last few decades worth of scientific insights and applies them in a way that is relevant to clinical practice, says Lena Forssén.

From the jury’s statement:

Christoffer Rahm takes a holistic approach to the new field of neuroscience-based psychiatry and introduces it to medical students, psychologists and psychotherapists who are interested in neuroscience and psychiatric nursing students. [...] The reader gains an understanding of how mental illness arises and manifests itself, as well as in-depth knowledge of diagnostics and treatment for the most common mental illnesses.
