Bluechip Study USA would like to congratulate the G17 Dakota Rev Rampage on winning the 2013 Gothia Cup!
Dakota Rev advanced easily from the first stages of Gothia Cup earning all 9 points in group play before entering the grueling knockout phase of the tournament which featured 5 games in the span of two days.
The final match was played in Gothia Arena in front of a great crowd. The Rampage won the final match by a score of 2-0 over Sweden’s LB 07, with goals coming from Kellie McGahn and Mackenzie Graybill. It is the first time a team from Minnesota has won the “World’s Youth Cup”!
The team from Apple Valley, MN featured numerous girls that have already made official and verbal commitments to play at U.S. colleges and universities for the upcoming 2014 season.
As for other Gothia Cup news, Bluechip Study USA continues to strengthen its ties with Shattuck St. Mary’s (SSM) College Preparatory Boarding School and Centers of Athletic Excellence.
Earlier this year, Bluechip welcomed Tim Carter, Director of Boys Soccer at SSM to Sweden for our College Soccer Showcase. Prior to Gothia Cup, Mika Elovaara, Director of Girls Soccer and Head Coach of Girls U18 at SSM spent a few days with the Bluechip staff and was generous enough to run a training session for Hönö-Björkö F98.
Elovaara also took some time to meet with prospective SSM Students and bring the Bluechip staff up to speed on recent development trends within the American women’s game.
Overall, Elovaara (A Finnish Native) was very impressed with the standard of play he saw from the Swedish sides at Gothia Cup, being able to watch games up close and personal while aiding as an assistant coach in the Dakota Rev Ravens championship run. The Ravens also featured three guest players from Shattuck St. Marys.
