Japan to get its own Moomin Theme Park

News   •   Dec 16, 2013 11:18 CET

In 2015 a Moomin theme park will open in Japan, announced FinTech Global Inc. (FGI) and Puuha International Oy earlier this week.

The event is almost set to coincide with the 100th birthday of late writer and creator of the Moomin’s,  Tove Jansson.
However, the location of the new theme park in Japan is yet to be determined.

- Our licensing program has experienced tremendous growth during the last decade due to great licensing deals in several parts of the world with companies like Suzuki, Lindex, Artek, Iittala, Samsung and Finalyson with annual retail revenue of 4,4 million EUR.

With a new Moomin animation, a jubilee year during 2014 (Tove Jansson 100 yrs.), a launch of an official Moomin branded webshop (www.moomin.com) and on top of that a new theme park in Japan we see a growing interest towards Moomin. We also have made significant deals during 2013, such as UNIQLO who launched a Moomin Collection which sold out just a few days,” says Gustav Melin – International Licensing Director Bulls Licensing.

The theme park project in Japan will be overseen by Moomin Monogatari, Ltd., a joint venture by FinTech Global Inc. (FGI) and Puuha International Oy .

- We have had a vision during many years of a Moomin theme park in Japan and in 2015 this vision will be realized. We are very positive and excited, says Roleff Kråkström CEO Moomin Characters.

The already existing and popular Moomin theme park in Finland with over 200,000 visitors annually has been a huge success for many years now and attracts families from all parts of the world.

The Moomins also entered the list of the most influential brands 2013, according to Licensing.biz annual Power List.
