Lampdirect, a Dutch company specialising in a wide range of lighting products (including signalling flares, LED and fluorescent lighting) and the corresponding fittings, has chosen Astro WMS for its logistics operations in the Netherlands.
Lampdirect sells its products through online shops to more than 250,000 customers worldwide, both B2B and B2C. During the winter, which is high season for Lampdirect, around 1,000 orders leave its DC in Son each day. This number is expected to increase rapidly in the future. Lampdirect wants to be ready for this increase, which is why it is implementing major changes to its logistics process.
From paper-based to dedicated WMS
Lampdirect currently has a paper-based stock movement process. This is no longer in keeping with the ambitions of Lampdirect, which has implemented a strategy of further professionalisation. That is why it was decided to have the warehouse managed by a dedicated WMS from now on.
The WMS will be aimed at improving efficiency through faster processes, greater inventory reliability, error reduction and a better return process. This will result not only in greater internal efficiency and less stress for staff, but also improved traceability and greater customer satisfaction.
Implementation at the end of 2015
Astro WMS will be going live in late 2015. The Astro WMS will be linked to SAP Business One, which is managed by Agion. It will also be integrated with the Transsmart transport booking software. As a result, labelling will also take place automatically, as will carrier selection. This optimisation will lead to considerable cost savings.
Ready for the future
Bram van der Linden from Lampdirect says the following about this project, “Our goal is to become the world’s largest online seller of electrotechnical products. This new system will help us achieve that goal.” The advantage of Astro WMS is that it can grow along with these plans. The system can even handle a five or tenfold volume increase. This scalability makes Astro WMS the perfect system for companies expecting to grow exponentially because the WMS will never be a limiting factor.
