Recharge - new global source for renewable energy news launches

Pressmeddelanden   •   Jan 16, 2009 16:20 CET

London/Oslo/Abu Dhabi (16/01/2009): The first edition of Recharge - a global renewable energy news publication - is revealed at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi this coming week. Recharge's global news organisation will create a premium multi-channel news publication for renewable energy business professionals and policy makers, consisting of a weekly newspaper and a continuously updated online news service (www.rechargenews.com). Recharge is a major new initiative of the Norwegian NHST Media Group.

Christopher Hopson, the Editor-in-Chief of Recharge says: "Recharge will relentlessly pursue accurate, exclusive and independent news in every corner of the globe. The new publication will cover business activity, finance, innovation, M&A and policy developments across the renewable energy sectors, including wind; solar; wave, tidal and hydro, geothermal and biofuels. The daring news content will be supported by regular features, opinions, and profiles offering an inside view of the issues and people that make a difference in the industry."

At launch Recharge will have in place a network of ten reporters located around the world. All are experienced journalists, who know the renewables scene and are solely employed by Recharge. They will provide the content to the weekly newspaper and supply the online news service with daily updates. Recharge is headquartered in London and Oslo, with other offices dotted around globe.

The NHST Media Group already publishes the world's most read news publications for the oil and gas sector (Upstream), the shipping sector (TradeWinds) and the seafood sector (Intrafish), making it a significant force in the global industry news publishing market. With Recharge, NHST takes its well-tested formula of editorial integrity and hard-hitting news to the world's most dynamic industry sector, to attract a new audience of renewable energy business executives and policy makers.

"We have launched Recharge because there has been a gap in the market for a quality news outlet serving the information needs of renewable energy professionals. A rapidly maturing sector needs the support of a quality source of intelligence" says Gunnar Bjørkavåg, CEO of NHST Media Group.

Mr Bjørkavåg comments: "It might seem bold to launch a brand new publication in present market conditions, but the timing is great: Renewable energy remains a most buoyant industry and an area of strategic investment around the globe. Recharge will provide those with a professional interest in renewable energy with the information they need to indentify new business opportunities and master the challenges ahead".

It is a B2B focused Web 2.0 business, that is already making money and has significant potential for international growth within NHST”

In addition to its ownership of the leading business news brands in Norway - Dagens Næringsliv and DN.no – NHST Media Group is a significant player in the global business to business news publishing market, with global number one positions for its news publications in the oil and gas sector (Upstream), the shipping sector (TradeWinds) and the seafood sector (Intrafish) and the recently established renewable energy publication REcharge.

Peter Ingman, Managing Director, Newsdesk says: “For Newsdesk it is important to have an industrial owner who understands the potential of our business and is willing and able to actively support the international roll-out of the business. The established global presence of NHST will be of great importance to the further development of Newsdesk”.

NHST Media Group kjøper Newsdesk AB

Pressmeddelanden   •   Aug 07, 2008 08:00 CEST

First global renewable energy newspaper to be launched

Pressmeddelanden   •   Jun 23, 2008 15:24 CEST

The NHST Media Group today announced that it will be launching a global renewable energy news organisation - consisting initially of a weekly newspaper and a continuously updated website providing up-to-date global business news coverage of the world's rapidly expanding renewable energy industries.

NHST is already a significant player in the global business to business news publishing market, with global number one positions for its news publications in the oil and gas sector (Upstream), the shipping sector (TradeWinds) and the seafood sector (Intrafish). The renewable energy publication - working name REcharge - will seek to emulate this success within the renewable energy area.

Gunnar Bjørkavåg, CEO of the NHST Media Group, commented: "If there is one new global media project where NHST has a competitive advantage, this is it. I am very enthusiastic about this opportunity."

Renewable energy is rapidly maturing as an industry sector, generating unprecedented volumes of investment and jobs and a frenzy of interest across the business world. Despite this, there are currently no news outlets adequately serving the decision makers in the sector. Many energy executives are already familiar with Upstream's market leading independent coverage of the oil & gas sector, and NHST has received extensive feedback that a publication mirroring its profile is needed for the renewable energy sector.

The new publication will cater to the needs of executive-level professionals, providing up-to-date independent and critical coverage of the business activity and opportunities across renewable energy sectors, covering deals, markets, technology, M&A and policy developments.

The online news site will be launched during the autumn of 2008 and the weekly newspaper will be published from early 2009. "The high oil price, the focus on climate change and a sustained and massive level of interest and investment in renewable energy makes this an ideal time to launch our new venture. The market is there and we have the internal expertise required. NHST has the global outlook, a worldwide network of editorial, sales and administrative/support staff and strong technology infrastructure," says Mr. Bjørkavåg.

He concludes: "This will be the fourth global niche publication from NHST. The group has the experience, integrity and capacity to execute this kind of long term investment. TradeWinds is the world's largest shipping publication, Upstream is the leading oil and gas publication in the world and Intrafish is the leading seafood news publisher. I am confident we will soon claim the same position for REcharge."
