Moskito sweeps the board at the Golden Venla Awards

Moskito won staggering eight awards at The Golden Venla Awards this weekend. Besides three other awards, Moskito´s drama series “Hooked” made history by winning all five awards for drama: Best Drama, Best Script, Best Direction, Best Male Actor and Best Female Actress.

 The Finnish television awards recognises the year’s best Finnish television programmes, their creators and performers in 15 different catogories. The Golden Venlas are voted for by members of the Academy – professionals working in the industry.

This is the first time in history that one show has won all the drama categories. Other awards for Moskito were “Yökylässä, Maria Veitola” (Sleeping with the Stars) which won the best interview / talkshow-programme, “Kuppilat Kuntoon, Jyrki Sukula” (Kitchen Nightmares), which won best lifestyle-programme and Roope Salminen who was named the best newcomer.

“Winning more than half of the awards that were voted by the Academy gives us a lot of reason to be happy and proud. It shows the quality, creativity and determination in our work. Winning best drama is not exactly a new thing for us, but to win all the drama categories shows that with “Hooked” we really ticked all the boxes”, says Roope Lehtinen CEO of Moskito and executive producer of Hooked.

Drugs squad criminal investigator, Oskari Autio, has a past that no one knew about, until the day the mother of his child, Krista, a former drug addict, turns up on his doorstep after 16 long years of being separated. Krista sees the drug underworld as an exciting place and when she gets a chance to gain information about the new traffickers who are importing cocaine, this gives Oskari and Krista a reason to be together. Krista takes on the role of criminal informant for Oskari and they make a co-operative agreement to help one another.

This will help Oskari’s ex-lover to stay out of prison for previous drug offenses and for Oskari, it is a chance to trace the cocaine traffickers. This mission will put them both in constant danger. Hooked is a drama about people’s dependencies. Human relationships and family dynamics will be tested in this story of addiction in all its forms.
