NEW SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL RATING PLATFORM TO HOST LAUNCH EVENT IN STOCKHOLM

“TripAdvisor for Sustainability”: One Planet Rating (OPR), the world's first review platform dedicated to sustainable travel & tourism, will be presenting how it plans to create positive impact for the planet via engaged citizens who use the platform.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - November 09, 2017- One Planet Rating (OPR) announced today it will be holding an event to officially launch a beta version of the sustainable travel review platform on Wednesday, 15th of November in the Swedish capital of Stockholm from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

A Platform Dedicated to Sustainable Travel

Tourism currently accounts for 10% of world GDP, $1.4tn in exports and 30% of services exports, as well as bringing economic benefits to local communities and encouraging greater global connectivity. As a key driver for socio-economic progress, the industry will increasingly have an impact on sustainability. In fact, today tourism is responsible for 5-10 % of global CO2 emissions depending on different calculation methods (Center for Responsible Travel, 2016).

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for every US$100 spent on a tour holiday by a tourist in a developed country, only around US$5 actually stays in a developing-country destination’s economy (WTTC, 2016).

As the world’s first dedicated review platform for sustainable travel and tourism, OPR is facing this problem head on. The aim is to turn travel into a force for good. On OPR, travellers can easily find and rate travel related entities - including hotels, restaurants, activities and cities - based on sustainable factors.

OPR can be described as the “TripAdvisor for Sustainability”, but it goes much deeper than that. OPR wants to create a review model that focuses deeper than mainstream review sites.

We have seen tremendous interest in what we do, from job applicants to testers, partners and players in the industry itself,” said Richard Lindberg, Co-founder of One Planet Rating. “We’ve also recently had another great validation in what we do as OPR was chosen as one of the 11 startups to participate in the Booster Labs weekend run by Booking.com.”

The launch event has seen great interest, with 115 sign ups to the event so far. At the event guests will get the first peek at the beta site and be introduced to the rating system.
