Ericsson's industry-leading softswitch system ENGINE R4 has been awarded Network Access Licenses issued by Chinas Ministry of Information Industry (MII). This makes Ericsson the only supplier that has passed the tests with a complete telephony softswitch and multimedia service softswitch solution in China.

In 2002, Ericsson's ENGINE R4 passed all rigid tests implemented by experts of MII's Research Institute of Telecommunications Transmission. Following network access tests, Ericsson's softswitch solutions for telephony and multimedia services have now succeeded in obtaining official licenses.

"This confirms Ericsson's leadership in wireline technology and will further strengthen our leading position in the infrastructure market during the evolution to Next Generation Networks in China," says David King, Vice President, Multi Service Networks, Ericsson. "With our profound marketing experiences and expertise in softswitch offerings, Ericsson will help Chinese operators push forward in creating future-proofed and highly integrated multiservice networks."

In March 2002, Ericsson signed a contract with China Telecom Group in Beijing, under which Ericsson offered equipment for the operators Next Generation Network trial and deployed ENGINE R4 solutions in Guangzhou and Shenzhen branches of the group.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
