Eva-Britt Svenssons brev till EU-parlamentets ordförande idag:

Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament

Dear sir,

I have had urgent communiation originating from ”Shahla” Jahed, an Iranian woman sentenced to death for the alleged murder of her husband's permanent wife. She has telephoned a contact in Europe and said that her execution is now imminent.

Khadijeh Jahed, known as "Shahla", who had contracted a temporary marriage with Nasser Mohammad-Khani, a former striker for the Iranian national football team, was convicted of stabbing to death her husband’s permanent wife. Shahla Jahed was initially sentenced to death by a Tehran General Court in June 2004. She withdrew her “confession” of murder in court.

Ms Jahed may well be executed by tomorrow. I suggest that you consider an urgent communication to Iranian authorities to appeal for her life. If you find it suitable I would add my name to the communication.

Sincerely

Eva-Britt Svensson MEP, FEMM committee chair
