ICAE will hold it´s 8th World Assembly in Malmö, Sweden 14-17 of June 2011. ICAE is a global civil society organization for the right to education for adults. The name of the assembly is “A world worth living in: Adult learning and education – a key to transformation”. The purpose is:
‐ To provide a collective space to strongly affirm the right to lifelong learning and education for all and to assert the immense value of adult education and learning in enabling citizens to build a world worth living in.
‐ To identify the priorities of lifelong learning and education and to develop proposals for action at a global, regional and local level.
The ICAE World Assembly is the main event that brings together adult educators and learners from around the world every four years, and it is a celebration of the importance of adult education for the construction of just and equitable societies.
The assembly will have four main themes:
Theme 1 – Adult Education as a Right and a Profession – Follow-up to international agreements as the Millenium Development Goals, Education for ALL and CONFINTEA VI
Theme 2 – Lifelong Learning for sustainability in a climate changing world -
Theme 3 – No right to decent work without right to learn
Theme 4 – Nordic folkeoplysning/folkbildning and worldwide challenges.
The ICAE World Assembly is hosted by the Swedish folkbildning organizations, Folkbildningsrådet( Swedish Council of National Education), Folkbildningsförbundet (The Swedish Adult Education Association), Rörelsefolkhögskolornas intresseorganistion and Sveriges Kommuner och Landsting (The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Region). There is a worldwide interest in the Nordic folkbildning tradition. Some 900 delegates are expected to participate.
Among the coorganizers of the assembly you find European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA), Nordic Network for Adult Learning (NVL), City of Malmö, Region Skåne, Swedish International Programme Office for Education and Training (IPK) and Forum Syd.
