Micropos is a medical device company with technologies for enhanced radiotherapy of cancer. Its product, RayPilot®, is an electromagnetic positioning system that works with existing linacs in order to enable non-ionizing, objective and real time prostate tracking.
Micropos is releasing a unique gating solution that is now qualified and compatible for use with Varian’s Clinac® iX linear accelerators and Trilogy® systems.
The RayPilot® consists of mainly three parts: a transmitter that is implanted in the prostate, a sensor plate that is placed directly on any existing couch top and a computer with software. Its function is similar to a GPS system by means that a target should be located in a given coordinate system. RayPilot initially gives information about Patient identification and where to position the couch in the set-up situation. When the treatment is delivered, RayPilot continuously registers the position of the tumor 30 times a second and gives a warning if the operator-defined margins are exceeded. All motion data is recorded and stored in a patient related database and can easily be accessed for further visual analyses or exported as Excel-files.
A connection between RayPilot SW via the Varian MMI interface enables patient synchronization and confirmation, objective set-up coordinates to be sent to Varian 4D Integrated Treatment Console (4DITC) for auto couch set-up, gating and repositioning of the couch if the position of the tumor stays out of tolerance.
The RayPilot System is CE-certified for prostate cancer use and can be used together with standard external radiotherapy or in combination with brachytherapy, boost or hypofractional treatment. In a near future RayPilot is expected to have a solution also for other treatment areas such as children, liver, gynecological and breast treatment. RayPilot’s upcoming combination of tracking and in-situ dosimetry, both in real time, will be clinically evaluated at the cancer center CGFL in Dijon, France during 2014.
