Mobispine AB and Birdstep Technology ASA today announced a global partnership which will combine Birdstep's mobile broadband connectivity software with Mobispine's desktop messaging application. The partnership will see the two parties offering an integrated connection and messaging solution to Operator customers globally. The integrated solution is expected to increase sales for both parties in the high growth mass market of Mobile Broadband.
Birdstep's EasyConnect software is pre-installed on an internal or external device (e.g. USB modem) for a given Operator providing consumers with an easy to use tool for managing the connection between a device, such as a laptop, and the mobile network. It also provides for significant costs savings to Operators deploying mobile broadband services. Mobispine's desktop client enables sending and receiving mobile messages (SMS and MMS) from non-handset devices such as PCs, laptops, and iPads.
"Mobispine's solution will provide Birdstep's Operator customers with the ability to bring useful mobile messaging services to the desktop. Creating and managing SMS & MMS can actually be easier and faster on a desktop than on a handset. The solution allows a user to send messages from the same number as their handset and so allows Operators to offer a unified experience of one number across multiple devices. The combined solution of Mobispine Desktop Messaging and EasyConnect will improve our already strong position in the forefront of mobile broadband connectivity" said Michael Jönsson, VP Global Sales at Birdstep.
"Birdstep have been highly successful in bringing sophisticated Mobile Broadband connectivity solutions to the market. Their software is the means of connection to the internet for millions of consumers around the world. We share the vision of taking mobile communication services from the handset world and making them available on other device types" said Joakim Hilj, CEO at Mobispine.
"We are truly excited about the value that we can bring for users and service providers by working together. As operators look towards the next phase of mobile broadband, our combined solution extends their ability to capitalize on SMS & MMS services and introduce fresh tariffs and pricing plans as they seek to increase profitability in this market." continued Hilj.
The two companies expect to announce their first joint Operator contract by the end of 2010 which will include automatic upgrading of existing devices and clients in the field.
