Parental leave resulted in math-app for kids

Do your kids also have to practice mental arithmetic? As Malena realized when her husband’s
daughter was 8 years old, not all kids like math, even if their teacher at school tells them they have to practice at home. In order to make the math homework more fun, Malena invented the math game Mingo. A year later, when shewas on parental leave with her son, she thought about how well the   game wouldwork as an app.

– This is a dream project, one of the most fun adventures I have ever had. My husband’s children have been my inspiration, their needs have given me the ideas. My own parental leave gave me time to think about how the ideas could be put into practice, the mum and app-developer Malena Britz says.

The kids have been a big part of this project. They have had ideas on the design of the app about what the hedgehog Mingo should look like.

Mingo Math I is available in 15 languages and kids from 5 years and up can practice mental arithmetic in a systematic and fun way while playing this game. The skills played are friends of ten (number bonds to ten), doubling, units and ten, and all times tables. The app is for kids and therefore free from advertising.

The app is available in AppStore, Amazon and Google Play, where you find it if you search for Mingo Math.
