Penny’s C Wear Interactive Glasses selected for European Research Project
Västerås, Sweden, September 3, 2014 – Penny, one of the world leading companies in development and manufacturing of Augmented Reality Glasses, will for the forthcoming 15 months take part in a research project led by EDA European Defence Agency. The contract was finalized the second quarter 2014 and the actual project Kick off took place at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in Espoo, Finland last week.
CEDS - Combat Equipment for Dismounted Soldier
The research project has the objective to identify possibilities offered by existing and innovative technologies to later recommend the implementation on future soldier systems or to identify possible trends of research investment to improve system performance.
The project scope for Penny includes usage of the series manufactured AR Glasses “C Wear Interactive Glasses” together with other technologies such as tactile systems and mobile computers.
“When I was contacted by a representative from the Swedish Defence Research Agency FOI in early 2013, regarding us taking part in this research application, I immediately understood that this would put our technology to the test” said Erik Lundström, Founder & CEO of Penny. “This research project’s main focus on human factors studies do reiterates our continued focus and commitment to test our technology on users based on worst case scenarios”.
Penny has built up considerable experience of its own technology for various government user groups; both military and civilian. This is the fifth international project since 2007 for this type of critical users, where Penny will be active with their knowledge and expertise.
Being given the opportunity to take part in this project, cooperating with other organizations is advantageous for Penny given the high number of multinational operations as well as the high amount of possible government users of the C Wear Interactive Glasses in Europe.
Penny pioneered in development of Augmented Reality Glasses since 2005 based on patents and research made by its founders since year 2000. The Penny technology of today do have one of the most advanced optics on the market which is completely “see through” and has a field of view (FOV) of 25 x 40 degrees.
Besides the high end technology in the optics Penny also have a mature technology for completely silent hands free control of the graphical user interface presented in the AR Glasses, which was one of the major reasons Penny initially was contacted by FOI.
Penny is situated in Västerås Science Park in Västerås, Sweden.
