Swedish artist Sidstar is releasing Costa del Dub, his second chiptune electronica album composed during a winter on the sunny coast of Southern Spain. On December 27th, in the midst of the Swedish winter cold, two songs from the album were broadcast for the first time on Swedish National Radio’s show “Elektroniskt i P2.”
Sidstar has travelled from the cold winter in Stockholm to the coast of Southern Spain, accompanied by a Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesizer. On the Costa del Dub album, Sidstar is inspired by sites and encounters in the sun: a crazy neighbour in Malaga; Britons partying in Fuengirola; loud construction workers in Marbella. Voices and sounds from these events leave traces in Sidstar’s music.
Sidstar’s Costa del Dub album revels in melodies and electronic dubs from environments in Southern Spain. It is also influenced by Prince Jammy’s legendary album ”Computerized Dub,” via the early releases of UK artist Alien Dread to Disrupt’s computer game dub at the Jahtari label. With this second album at Swedish label Meerkat Recordings, Sidstar follows up his first album ”In Andalucia,” which was inspired by Nintendo videogames while paying tribute to early synth pioneers
