CARD.COOP welcomes the National Association of Swedish Eco-Municipalities (Sekom)and Sustainable Sweden (SuS) as members of the CARD.COOP Web Campus. They will now create Ecomuna, a Capacity Center for Eco-Municipalities on the web.

Sekom and SuS have for many years worked internationally to build relationships between communities, organizations and individuals working with sustainable development. In May 2008, they conducted a first international eco-municipality conference in Helsingborg, Sweden. The idea was that similar conferences could be held regularly in the following years.

The absence of an international body, combined with the economic crisis facing the world community has hampered this initiative. However now, with the CARD.COOP Web Campus, Sekom and SuS will together create “Ecomuna”, a global Capacity Center for Eco-Municipalities on the web. It will be a virtual meeting place inviting  all enthusiastic ”fire-souls” and everyone interested in the growing global Eco-Municipality movement to learn, teach and connect.

About Sekom
The guiding principle of Sekom is to encourage development towards a more sustainable society, where we have a sound environment while, at the same time, people have a high quality of life. The main purpose of Sekom is to provide a forum and a meeting place where politicians and municipal employees can exchange information and learn from each others successes and failures. Currently, the association has 88 member municipalities, which add up to about 29 percent of the municipalities in Sweden. For more information, visit:
