Committee meetings and political groups week - Brussels

Europe - Latin America. Parliament will host the inaugural meeting of the EUROLAT Parliamentary Assembly, bringing together MEPs and national MPs with parliamentarians from Latin America. EP President Josep Borrell will speak at the opening ceremony. (Wednesday and Thursday)

CIA/Poland. A delegation from the Temporary Committee looking into allegations of illegal CIA activity in Europe will be travelling to Warsaw for meetings with officials, NGOs and others. (Tuesday to Thursday)

Josep Borrell in Italy. The EP President will make an official visit to Italy. He will meet the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the European Affairs Minister, as well as the Speakers of both chambers of the Italian Parliament. He will address the European Affairs Committees of both chambers. (Thursday to Friday)

EP/Hong Kong. Earlier in the week, in Brussels, Mr Borrell will meet the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, Donald Tsang. (Wednesday)

Citizens' Forums. The latest in a series of Citizens' Forums on the future of Europe, organised by the EP, take place in the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

Congo/EUFOR. A delegation of MEPs will be in the Democratic Republic of Congo to see for themselves the work of the EUFOR military operation there. (Tuesday to Thursday)

Preparations for the plenary. Parliament's political groups will devote most of the week to preparations for the Strasbourg plenary session fo13-16 November. The main items on the agenda include the second reading vote on the Services Directive, a debate with the European Commission on its work programme for 2007 plus the first reading of proposals to create a globalisation adjustment fund and the presentation to the plenary of the 2005 annual report of the Court of Auditors.

Pre-session press briefing. Any changes to the plenary agenda adopted by the Conference of Presidents will be announced at the regular press briefing at 11am on Friday 10 November.
