Each year at Skansen brings a mixture of well-loved traditions and new events and this programme can only present a selection of the events planned for 2010. It will be a year with preparations for the royal wedding along with the ordinary program.
Skansen celebrates Sámi National Day on 6 February. The Easter holiday is from the 1 - 5 of March. Children can learn to make traditional broomsticks and suchlike on the Thursday. Traditional Easter celebrations will be on show for the adults and there is an Easter market for those who want to buy Easter decorations on the Bollnäs Square. Walpurgis Night is celebrated on 30 April with bonfires, speeches, choral singing and entertainment on the Solliden stage. On 17 May we celebrate Norwegian National Day with processions, speeches, music and many visitors wearing folk costumes.
Sweden's National Day, 6 June, will be celebrated with a gala programme. Royal procession from the Palace and crowds of visitors at Solliden!
Midsummer will be celebrated for three days from the 25 - 27 of June. Dancing round the maypole, traditional musical games, folk music from Sweden and other countries.
Skansen's dance programmes start at midsummer. There will be evenings for all who love bug, foxtrot, tango, polskas, etc. throughout the summer until the end of August. Sing-a-long at Skansen starts on the 29 of June.
A scent of 18th century Stockholm is felt on the 26 of July which is the Swedish national poet Bellman´s Day. Blue Monday - jazz evenings at Solliden start on the 30 of July. Dancing to the Skansen Big Ballroom Band at the Galejan dance pavillion after the concert.
Autumn market on the 25 - 26 of September. This is a picturesque market as it might have been in the mid 19th century. Held on the summer meadow at the Skåne Farmstead.
Focus is on our five Swedish predators - and how we can live in harmony with them - from the 2 - 10 of October. The International Teddybear´s Day will be celebrated on the 27th of October.
Skansen's Christmas Market will be held on these weekends: 27 - 28 of November, 4 - 5, 11 - 12 and 18 - 19 of December. Stockholm's Lucia will be the center of attention on the 13th of December. Traditional Lucia celebrations at the Temperance Hall and on the Solliden stage on the same day. The year at Skansen ends when we ring in 2009 with entertainments and fireworks on New Year's Eve.
