The year at Skansen 2011

Each year at Skansen brings a mixture of well-loved traditions and new events and this programme presents a selection of the events planned for 2011. Some dates in the end of the year might be subject to change.

6 of February - Skansen celebrates Sámi National Day.

23 - 30 of April - The Easter holiday. Children can learn to make traditional broomsticks and suchlike on the Thursday. Traditional Easter celebrations will be on show for the adults and there is an Easter market for those who want to buy Easter decorations on the Bollnäs Square.

30 of April - Walpurgis Night is celebrated with bonfires, speeches, choral singing and entertainment on the Solliden stage.

17 of May - Norwegian National Day with processions, speeches, music and many visitors wearing folk costumes.

6 of June - Sweden’s National Day with the Royal family, processions from the Palace, and a live broad cast from the Solliden stage at Skansen.

24 - 26 of June - Midsummer will be celebrated with dancing round the maypole, traditional musical games, folk music from Sweden and other countries.
Skansen’s dance programmes start at midsummer. There will be evenings for all who love bug, foxtrot, tango, polskas, etc. throughout the summer until the end of August.

28 of June - 16 of August - Sing-a-long at Skansen, a live broad cast from the Solliden stage with Swedish and international artists.

11 of July - 22 of august - Blue Monday, a series of jazz evenings at Solliden stage. The evening begins with Jazz dining at the Gubbhyllan restaurant and ends with dancing to the Skansen Big Ballroom Band at the Galejan dance pavillion after the concert.

10 - 24 of July - Get a taste of 18th century Stockholm felt

23 of July - the Swedish national poet Bellman´s Day.

24 - 25 of September - Autumn market. This is a picturesque market as it might have been in the mid 19th century. Held on the summer meadow at the Skåne Farmstead.

26 - 27 of November - Skansen’s Christmas Market starts this weekend and will be held also on 3 - 4, 10 - 11 and 17 - 18 of December.

3 of November - Coronation of Stockholm’s Lucia 2011.

13th of December - Traditional Lucia celebrations at the Temperance Hall and on the Solliden stage on the same day.

31 of December - The year at Skansen ends when we ring in the new year with entertainments and fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
