Two Gothenburg entrepreneurs hoping to ace LGBTQ+ leadership challenge in Berlin

Press release   •   Jun 26, 2019 11:10 CEST

Two entrepreneurs from Gothenburg will be among 100-plus contestants vying for the top spot at RAHM – The Global LGBT+ Leadership Contest – in Berlin on July 26.

RAHM, a German word, means “crème”. Through this event, the contest’s organisers are looking to identify the crème de la crème of leaders in the LGBT+ community.

On July 26, Daniel Nilsson and Noel Braganza will join other entrepreneurs, promising young students and top executives in a day-long interactive event that will present them with challenges designed specifically to develop and test their leadership skills.

Each candidate will be assessed through a crowd-ranking process that everyone participates in, including contestants, observers and the top executive jury. The top 10 shortlisted candidates will then take part in a group interview with the jury, after which the finalist will be chosen, again through a crowd-ranking process.

About Up Strategy Lab

Nilsson and Braganza started their company Up Strategy Lab in September 2018 because they always wanted to have more control over their lives and over how they had an impact on the world around them.

Up Strategy Lab is a design-driven and customer-centric business laboratory that works with entrepreneurs to tailor-grow their businesses.

“What is so exciting about entrepreneurship is that you can activate a lot more initiatives and ideas that you otherwise only dream of,” said Nilsson. “One such idea was to support the LGBT+ community and all those in the business world who have been underrepresented so far.”

Braganza said the contest was a great learning opportunity. “We hope to meet others and exchange experiences and ideas,” he said. “We believe the best way to grow is to learn from each other and it is important that we continue to support such initiatives that are today a platform to empower and enable a community that doesn’t need to hide in the shadows even in their professional life.”

Both are immensely excited about competing together. They had applied separately. While Nilsson was selected for last year’s contest but was unable to attend, he decided to participate in the 2019 event. Braganza made it through the application and interview process this year.

Group challenges

The agenda in Berlin includes three leadership group challenges. It will culminate with an award ceremony and celebration.

The contest is an opportunity for members of the LGBT+ community to expand their network, develop their skills, find potential career opportunities and also find friends, says the RAHM website.

Besides Berlin, the contest is also being held in Toronto and Dublin this year.

“You can not be what you can not see,” said Tarek Hassan, the winner of the 2018 Berlin edition of the contest. The RAHM contest gave space to diverse identities, which exposed him to role models he lacked earlier, he said.
