STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (February 9, 2016)

Award-winning director Babak Najafi is set to direct the thriller Horizon Line, it was announced today.

In a competitive situation Nordic major Svensk Filmindustri has acquired the original spec script written by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken, who most recently wrote 10 Cloverfield Lane for producer JJ Abrams, slated for a March 2016 release.

The film, a suspense thriller, follows a couple on a small airplane that loses its way over the Pacific Ocean.

The film is set to go into production in the fall of 2016 and will soon start casting.

Fredrik Wikström Nicastro will produce for Svensk Filmindustri and Jonas Fors, CEO of Svensk Filmindustri, will executive produce.

Najafi previously won the “Best First Feature” award at the Berlin Film Festival for his film Sebbe, his directorial debut. He most recently directed London Has Fallen, which stars Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman and which Focus Features will release domestically next month. The director stated, “I am looking forward to working with my friend and producer Fredrik Wikström Nicastro again and making an international movie for Svensk Filmindustri.”

This marks the second time that Campbell and Stuecken will work together with Wikstrom Nicastro, having previously written the English language remake of the 2012 box-office hit, Easy Money, aka Snabba Cash, starring Joel Kinnaman. Wikstrom Nicastro remarks, “I am thrilled to continue the fruitful and creative collaboration with director Babak Najafi and such talented writers as Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. Horizon Line is one of the most suspenseful, original scripts I have ever read. ”

The Horizon Line is one of the first features included in Svensk Filmindustri´s global strategy to produce more English language thrillers in partnership with high level Scandinavian talent. Currently there are already two projects in development with StudioCanal: Easy Money and Ibiza: The White Island.
