Nordic major SF Studios appoints new CEO

Nordic major SF Studios’ board of directors has appointed Michael Porseryd as new CEO for the company. He will join the company during the first quarter of 2017. With its nearly 100-year-old legacy, SF Studios is the Nordic region’s leading film company, producing and distributing commercial high-quality films and TV drama for the Nordic and international markets.

Michael Porseryd has held numerous leading positions in the Swedish and Nordic media industry. As Nordic CEO for the global production company Endemol, he built up its Nordic operation between 2010 and 2015. Prior to that, he held various top management positions, including COO and Executive Vice President at Metronome Film & Television, as well as a number of CEO positions at MTG, with their subsidiaries Viasat, TV8 and ZTV.

“I’m extremely pleased and very excited to be entrusted with this opportunity, says Michael Porseryd. SF Studios has a fantastic legacy of producing and distributing content. I strongly believe in their well-defined strategy where content continues to be core as well as their focus on investing in new distribution channels and production of films and TV series for even wider audiences. I really look forward to work together with the talented team in the company”, says Michael Porseryd.

“Michael has a long, solid and well documented experience in the industry, including production and the acquisition of film and TV rights. I’m convinced that he, together with the SF Studios team and partners in the Swedish and Nordic film community, has what it takes to continue to build and develop SF Studios into Europe’s most exciting film studio,” says Ulrika Saxon, Bonnier’s representative on the board of directors of SF Studios.

Today, SF Studios’ business operations include local and international production of films and TV series, rights acquisitions, Nordic co-productions, distribution in the Nordic and international markets as well as digital consumer services.

The company has at present several exciting projects in its production slate including the international feature film Borg vs. McEnroe, starring Sverrir Gudnason as Björn Borg, Shia LaBeouf as John McEnroe and Stellan Skarsgård as Borg’s coach Lennart Bergelin. The film is planned for a fall 2017 Swedish theatrical release.

Last year’s biggest production, A Man Called Ove, a huge box-office hit with over 1.7 million Swedish admissions, was recently picked as Sweden’s nomination for the 2017 Oscar’s best foreign film category.

“Frida Westerberg, who has done a tremendously good job as acting CEO since June 2016, will continue in her previous role as deputy CEO and COO for SF Studios and remain central to SF Studios’ development,” says Saxon. “Furthermore, she will become part of Bonnier Growth Media’s executive management team in a strategic role, handling the business area’s future investments.”
