IT security world tour comes to Amsterdam

How your company can protect its data

The infrastructure of the internet is constantly changing. On 16 May IT giant Akamai’s Security Summit World Tour will come to Amsterdam, with talks on how companies can best deal with new security challenges.
“The attack landscape is constantly changing, and companies have to update their security strategies in order to protect their data”, says Henrik Eriksson, Services Line Manager at Akamai.

As the internet and the way we use it evolves, the nature of the threats has also changed. On 16 May the Security Summit World Tour will come to Amsterdam for a full-day conference in which representatives from Akamai, the world’s largest supplier of cloud platforms, along with a few selected customers, will speak on how they identify and deal with new cyber threats. Among other things, the conference will examine the growing problem of credential abuse, in which programmed bots imitate human behaviour in order to access corporate data.
“Many of our customers today have long been under attack without being aware of it. The problem is that most of them cannot distinguish between genuine consumers and bots, because the behaviour looks the same. Then the bots empty the company of data. We go through what the consequences will be, and above all, how to identify and deal with harmful traffic,” says Henrik Eriksson.

Increasing number of data breaches from inside

Previously, companies structured their networks by primarily distinguishing whether the user was inside or outside the firewall. Today more people than ever work independently of location, and companies have a growing need to allow partners and subsuppliers access to digital tools at a distance. At the same time, a great deal of internet traffic has changed in nature, from going via websites to API traffic. This creates new challenges with regard to protecting data. Today over 50 per cent of all data breaches in companies around the world come from inside.
“For a security manager at a company today it is really important not to think in terms of one system that will be the sole solution to all problems, but to evaluate tools within a number of areas in order to guard against breaches,” concludes Henrik Eriksson.

In addition to protection from credential abuse, the talks will examine application and API security, Zero Trust security and the latest research on cyber threats. The conference will be held at the Van der Valk Hotel Breukelen. Akamai´s Security Summit World Tour will also visit Milan, Italy on the 28th of May and Kraków, Poland on the 30th of May.
