Test the pre-release of Scopey at CHIO Aachen

Test a pre-release version of Scopey at CHIO Aachen. Scopey is the new digital tool for designing show jumping courses and arena exercises. The Swedish developers of Scopey are exhibiting the app in tent 749 and are engaging with course designers, trainers and riders from all over the world. Sweden is the partner country of the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen 2016.

Exactly one year ago, Daniel Brynolf and Ebba Kierkegaard started a project that they later came to call Scopey. Ebba, a product developer and horse breeder with experience in the equestrian sports, and Daniel, a professional game developer and interaction designer, started the project just for fun. Ebba had the idea of making a tool for show jumping course design and arena exercises; a tool that could calculate the distances between jumps and other useful features. Daniel had the experience of making a lot of games and prototypes and suggested that Ebba could make the app using the programming language Lua. Together they started to craft the app now and then in their spare time; but it wasn’t until one year later that they decided to release the app, due to positive feedback from show jumping course designers and riders.

Ebba discovered the problem that it only exists expensive software aimed at show jumping course design, and there are no mobile solutions available. Among professional course designers and trainers; using pen and paper is still a common way to design courses and arena exercises. By googling the images of “show jumping arena exercises”shows that there exist many different styles and techniques.

The solution that Scopey intent to offer is a mobile, digital tool, to systematise the design of courses and arena exercises, and make the job easy for professional course designers, trainers and riders. In the long run, there is a potential to use Scopey as an educational platform to share featured content in collaboration with sponsors and partners.

In March 2016, Ebba participated in the business forum at Gothenburg Horse Show, where she also met with the world cup riders and received great feedback on the prototype of the Scopey app. At that point, Daniel and Ebba decided to put more effort into refining the app and go for a release. Ebba started the company Carrot AB with the idea of develop innovative products for equestrians, with Scopey as the first product in the portfolio. At the same time, it was announced that Sweden was this year´s partner country at the World Equestrian Festival in CHIO Aachen and that Swedish companies were invited to exhibit their products. Ebba took the chance to participate with Scopey, and saw the opportunity to engage with equestrians from all over the world in the development of Scopey.

Now that the Swedish developers Daniel and Ebba are at CHIO Aachen, they welcome course designers, trainers and riders from all over the world to test a pre-release version of Scopey. Scopey is being exhibited in tent 749 in the Swedish pavilions of the CHIO Aachen Village.
