Pressmeddelande -

HP & Challengermode jointly launch the first Nordic University League for esports.

Esports – competitive computer gaming – is soon set to become one of the largest sports in the world. HP Inc together with Swedish gaming platform provider Challengermode launches the first ever university esports championship for the Nordics. Student teams from any university in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland are eligible to participate.

We created the University Championship because we want to give non-professional but serious teams the chance to compete in a professional environment and get something back for their hard-earned gaming skills. Organizing esports around universities is a great way to spur community engagement locally at the universities. But it also serves the higher purpose of creating a platform for the next generation of esports athletes. It’s natural for Challengermode to be a part of facilitating that.

-Robel Efrem, CEO & founder of Challengermode

This first Nordic University Championship will be held starting in January 2017 and is played in the world’s most popular competitive game League of Legends (by developer Riot Games). The championship will feature a 50 000 SEK (about €5000) prize pool, split among the top 3 teams. 32 of the best Nordic university teams will be able to enter the competition, with 8 teams qualifying to the final tournament at the end of January 2017. The final game will be held at Jönköping University in Jönköping, Sweden and hosted in collaboration with the university’s esports association JUSTICE. It will be live-streamed via the Challengermode Twitch channel to a Global audience.

The university championship is set to expand to more countries and esports titles in the future and is expected to run twice a year – during the fall and spring semesters.

With the growth of esports and the great arena Challengermode has created, we see this cooperation as the perfect match for us in the Nordics. The idea to build a platform for the next generation of esports athletes is fully in line with our new OMEN by HP lineup of PC gaming hardware. Challengermode has built the arena to play and we have the hardware that helps the gamers conquer!
