DUX presents Claesson Koivisto Rune Collection at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen

The future starts now

DUX presents a new furniture collection designed by the internationally renowned Swedish architecture and design firm Claesson Koivisto Rune – a collection that represents a big step onto the modern furniture scene. With DUX’s tradition of proud craftsmanship as the starting point, the designer trio has developed a series of innovative furniture pieces for living rooms and bedrooms alike.

Claesson Koivisto Rune’s furniture collection for DUX consists of a headboard, a modular sofa system, an easy chair, a series of small metal coffee tables, and three cabinets, all suitable for both private and public spaces. Common to the five designs is the pairing of a tight, linear design language with a more organic, sculptural expression, with the resulting pieces complementing one another when placed together.

Discussing their collaboration with DUX, Claesson Koivisto Rune say, “DUX is the finest furniture brand to ever come out of Sweden, with an international acclaim otherwise reserved only for a handful of the best Italian brands. In many ways, DUX is still recognised for Bruno Mattsson’s legendary designs from the 70s and 80s. So taking on the challenge of creating a full new contemporary collection for DUX in 2017 is no small task. It can make even an established Scandinavian designer somewhat shaky. But we have carefully studied Bruno Mattsson’s forms and have experienced DUX’s uncompromising handmade quality. We know Scandinavia and have explored the world. All these elements, brought together, have been our inspiration.”

Charlotte Ljung, CEO of DUX Nordic, adds, ”I feel deeply confident that DUX has found the perfect match in Claesson Koivisto Rune. They understand our heritage and, with their unique approach to design, they can also interpret our future. Since the 1960s, DUX has produced and sold the beloved classics designed by Bruno Mattsson, and now the time has come to find the right name to follow in Mattsson’s footsteps and create a contemporary collection that will complement our classic one. With this new collection, I believe that we are bringing five future furniture classics to Scandinavian furniture design.”

The collection

Eden/Headboard

Eden is a soft, upholstered headboard with a simple yet dramatic signature bow shape. The shape is not a classic circle, but flattened in the same way that the setting sun is distorted at the horizon by atmospheric refraction .

Alicia/Sofa

Alicia is a modern modular sofa system that allows most configurations and sizes. With the integrated marble tabletops, the sofa can easily be composed into a kind of ”socialising landscape.” The bow-shaped backrest gives rhythm to an otherwise strict design, while the detail of the leg adds sharpness. The sofa features a unique spring system identical to that of DUX beds, making it a clear contender for the title of world’s most comfortable sofa – not to mention one that never sags.

Anita/Easy Chair

Marry a classic Scandinavian Windsor chair and an Italian upholstered easy chair, and you get Anita. This easy chair is simultaneously open and comfortable, light and heavy. Its rounded geometry makes the easy chair a natural fit for any room and any accompanying furniture. In line with other pieces or standing on its own, it never disturbs or dominates a given space thanks to its transparent, spindled back.

Arizona/Dakota/Montana/Ohio/Coffee Tables

Small occasional tables inspired by forms found in the work of American artist Ellsworth Kelly become a dynamic coffee table when grouped together. Like in the map of the USA, ruler-drawn lines merge with natural borders into a kind of “impure” geometry. No two table sides are the same length; they are not meant to fit together perfectly. But when you do put them together, the tension of the disconnect becomes the point. Easy to spontaneously rearrange and easy to put against a wall, in a corner, on their own or in a group.

Sun/Moon/Cabinets:

The Sun and Moon cabinets share the Arizona, Dakota, Montana and Ohio tables’ source of inspiration. But unlike in the tables, the rounded shapes are not the tabletops but the drawer fronts. Sculptural but also functional as bedside, side or hallway tables or a TV bench, the cabinets feature a drawer for the things you want to stow away and ample space for items worthy of display.

The collection is sold through DUX dealers as well as selected DUXIANA shops throughout the Nordic countries.
