Galleri Duerr Kulturnatt Stockholm

On April 25, 5 pm to midnight, Galleri Duerr will be telling you the stories of:

Nuno Perestrelo - "Lost Empires". To avoid repeating past mistakes, you must know and understand them. After nearly 50 years of dictatorship and censorship the Portuguese, of which 60% could neither read nor write, stepped directly into the middle of the Cold War and a global market economy. The photographer Nuno Perestrelo, born 16 years after the peaceful Carnation Revolution in 1974, has captured a series of poetic images that bare traces of a time that once was, born out of the need to rescue that forgotten time. The sites of industrial monuments, not only ravaged by the impact of time and nature but also of the promise of community development, economic crisis and chemical damage, were once places where people made their livelihood by farming and fishing.

Alannah Robins - The on-going project “A Sculpture in Liquorice” and her oil painting series "Woman Under Water".

Matt Miley - “Assimilation in the Snow”. 305 x 183 cm, created in New York and Missisippi, showing for the first time in Sweden. Segments of Matt's work are heavily influenced by his life experiences in the southern United States. More specifically, his experiences with religion, politics, and culture. Not a Christian himself, Matt is fascinated by the dichotomy in the region between old, deep-routed cultural institutions and the potentialities that exist with open philosophical inquiry and critical thinking. During his studies in London and Amsterdam he observed a complex social, cultural, and political environment. Europe bares some similarities to the southern United States but is often completely divergent. At that time, Matt's research involved the critical reason, comparative mythology, and theory in contemporary art.
