The Swedish Society of Medicine has awarded this year’s Jubilee Prize to Sven Enerbäck, Professor of Biomedicine at the Sahlgrenska Academy. Professor Enerbäck has been awarded SEK 150,000 in recognition of his research into fat metabolism and fat cell differentiation, which has led to better opportunities for treating obesity and has demonstrated mechanisms for how other public diseases such as adult-onset diabetes arise.
Professor Enerbäck is part of a research team studying how metabolism is regulated in both brown and white fat tissue, and how these interact with each other and with other organs in the body.
“Gaining recognition for our research is both rewarding and stimulating,” says Professor Enerbäck. “I would like to emphasise the fact that the entire research team has contributed towards these results, whereby fat tissue as an organ can be a target for treating diseases.”
The Swedish Society of Medicine is a politically and professionally independent society that awards scientific prizes each year in order to encourage research within various fields.
