Researchers in Göteborg receive MSEK 13.7 from the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation

15 researchers in Göteborg receive MSEK 13.7 from the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation to develop methods to treat people suffering from heart, lung or vascular diseases.
Anna-Carin Olin
, Senior Lecturer, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, is one of the researchers who will recieve money. Anna-Carin Olin also recieved verification grant in 2010 from GöteborgBIOin collaboration with Sahlgrenska Science Park.
Thanks to donors throughout Sweden, the Foundation can now distribute MSEK 165 to the country's leading heart, vascular and lung researchers. The money shall be used for research that results in lives being saved and which improves treatment for those inflicted by among things heart attack, sudden heart failure, stroke and COPD.
The other 14 researchers in Göteborg that will now share MSEK 13.7 together with Anna-Carin Olin are:

Researchers are doing a fantastic job in the development of methods for the treatment of these complicated illnesses, and our task is to finance their efforts," says Staffan Josephson, Secretary General of the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation.

• The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation is the largest single financier of independent heart and lung research in Sweden.
• This year the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation is allocating MSEK 165 to research, an increase of MSEK 5 over the previous year.
• Every year the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation finances about 200 ongoing research projects at hospitals and universities around the country.
• During 2011 researchers have applied for more than MSEK 1000 in research support from the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation, which has been able to contribute 16 % of the sum.
• One of the goals of the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation is to reduce the number of deaths from heart attack by 50 % over the next ten years.
