The Stockholm School of Economics launches Center for Sustainable Markets

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) and Mistra (The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research) have announced the creation of a center of excellence devoted to sustainable development. The Center’s mission is to strengthen Sweden’s competiveness in sustainable markets, in part by supporting Swedish actors in these markets with both research findings and directly applicable innovative methods.

Mistra is investing 55M SEK over a five year period in this new center at SSE dedicated to research and educational development in the field of sustainable markets, the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (MISUM). With a brief that extends beyond traditional research, the Center will also generate concrete solutions and processes that will contribute directly to sustainable economic development.

“This is a long-awaited opportunity for SSE to contribute meaningfully to the creation of a more sustainable society,” said Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics. “Our strong relationships in the business community make it likely that new discoveries will be put quickly into practice.”

“The Stockholm School of Economics educates a large proportion of the top managers working within the Swedish economy. We want our strategic investment to help put sustainability at the center of research and education at SSE and in that way ensure its importance for the decision makers of tomorrow,” said Åke Iverfeldt, Mistra’s Executive Director.

The aim is to create a world-class, cross-disciplinary center of excellence that will enhance understanding for and create new insights into sustainable markets. MISUM will function as a platform and meeting place for many kinds of actors both national and international: academics, practitioners, firms and other organizations. MISUM’s mission also includes providing expert advice to political leaders and policy developers and cooperation with other research centers.

MISUM will feature an international board with members drawn from the academy and the business community. Read more on www.hhs.se
