Stafvagård, May 2013

Beautiful sunny day on Gotland. Swishing in the air, green field, smell of cows and cheese, grey turbine, children running and screaming around. What do all these have in common? One goal, to make an old wind turbine more attractive in the landscape by colourful painting. That is why we, students of wind power, decided to find school children who would help us with this idea. After a long search for a school when our ISAWE (International Student Association of Wind Energy) almost gave up, we found 23 school children in Atheneskolan in Visby who were eager to transform the unexciting grey plant into a remarkable masterpiece. The 10 year old innovators drew ideas of what they would like to paint on the turbine, which is located at Stafva farm owned by Patrik von Corswant.

While similar projects have been organized abroad before, an official wind turbine painting on Gotland has happened for the first time and we are confident our mission has been completed successfully. ISAWE educated the school children about wind energy, we raised wind power awareness when some parents, families, friends, Bertil Klintbom from Region Gotland, teachers, and even a dog joined us for this lively event. Although wind power acceptance on Gotland has reached a healthy level, we believe that the colours sponsored by our university will contribute to a more pleasant visual impact of wind power on the Gotlandic scenery.
