Het premiär för Kung Fury

Kung Fury har haft premiär och kvällen var självfallet het i Umeå där filmskaparna tillsammans med många inbjudna firade. Men även internationellt firas premiären av 80-talsfilmen.

Infotech Umeå har med flera artiklar följt skapandet av Kung Fury-filmen allt sedan de första timmarna på kampanjsajten Kickstarter då det märktes att något stort var på gång. Den förhoppningsfulla visionen om att samla in 200 000 dollar slogs med råge. Efter 30 dagar hade hela 630 019 dollar strömmat in, vilket gav utrymme för att göra en 30 minuters film om kung fu-polisen som reser bakåt i tiden för att döda Adolf Hitler.

Den kommer nu, enligt uppgifter från filmteamet, också att få en uppföljare i långfilmsformat, så Kung Fury kommer att låta höra av sig fram, var så säker.

När filmen i förra veckan visades på filmfestivalen i Cannes och denna vecka i Sverige på SVT Play och internationellt över Youtube så hamnar filmen återigen i internationell nyhetsmedia. Här är några exempel från de senaste dagarna:

The result is particularly impressive considering director and star David Sandberg doesn't actually know any kung fu. Certainly, any shortcomings in his technique are covered up with liberal use of modern visual effects, or wiped away with tracking errors and frequent interruptions of fuzz, making it look like the movie's been copied straight from a VHS. Love of 1980s culture brings Kung Fury to Calgary for one screening only

Yes, it’s Kung Fury, and it’s coming to a big screen in Calgary – for one night only.
Just like the crowdfunded film itself, the local screening was the product of an idea, community support, and a passion for 1980s culture.
“Personally, the 80s was my favourite era for movies, clothing, hairstyles, and music. So, it’s right up my alley,” said Kevin Chernenkoff who, along with his buddy Lowen Pawliw, is organizing a showing of the 30-minute film at the Globe Cinema on Monday evening.
The pair of longtime friends reached out the Swedish producers of Kung Fury and got the OK to show it locally at no charge. They planned to rent out the Globe Theatre, which ended up offering the space for free, as well.

... if you think this is the end of the KUNG FURY saga, you'd be wrong; a feature version may be on the way. Sanberg met up with David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, who shared his love of all things 80's, and they put him in touch with Tyler Burton Smith, an American video game writer based in Finland. Sandberg and Smith worked together to flesh out a longer version of the script which allowed for bigger action and some actual character development.
