P77 awarded Nordic Swan Eco Label
The beautiful P77 armchair, designed by the furniture designer and architect Jonas Lindvall, has qualified to carry the Nordic Swan Eco Label. This means that the chair has fulfilled the stringent criteria stipulated by the Nordic Ecolabelling Board. Among other things, the environmental impact of the product throughout its whole lifecycle, from raw materials to waste, was assessed. The P77 is wholly recyclable and the different plastic materials that make up the chair do not even have to be sorted separately.
The idea of creating an environmentally-friendly chair was always an essential part of the Creation process. Over a period of three years the chair evolved from a conceptual sketch to a worldwide success. Major investments in the form of time and money have created a chair that is unique in both its design and production process. The chair comprises two parts that are moulded together: a thin shell and a supporting core. Two types of plastic are required to create the feeling of surface softness while stability is achieved by using a thermosetting plastic for the core.
Last autumn, the P77, the result of the first collaborative project between Johanson Design and Jonas Lindvall, was nominated for the Swedish Design Award in the ‘Design S’ category. The brief for the assignment from Johanson Design was to create a lightweight, comfortable, durable and stackable armchair at an unbeatable price. The chair weighs around 5 kg, making it ideally suited for both Indoor and outdoor use, in both private and public environments. It is the perfect solution for everything from school dining halls and offices to pavement cafés and restaurants. The entire P77 chair is made in Sweden and Johanson Design expects to manufacture thousands of units in 2013.
