LG receives high praise for Sustainable Supply Chain

Life really is good for LG in the past month.

During the CES Asia 2017 (an award ceremony for innovation, design and manufacturing that have sustainability in mind) LG was singled out for their new green product design.

LG has developed a television (LG OLED TV) that has significantly reduced the use of hazardous and raw materials. “LG OLED TVs are optimized to minimize environmental impact and to provide high performance and customer value with features like perfect black and limitless contrast, and 4K Ultra HD and high-dynamic range capabilities” (Bezinga 2017).

The company has had so much success in the development of this product because of their interest in supplier engagement. By working closely with suppliers and implementing green initiatives they’ve been able to ensure that sourcing, production, and post-production conducted within their supply chain is up to their corporate standards of sustainability.

By enhancing product quality, sustainability and transparency, LG is enhancing customer value by improving their product lifecycle insight.

Leveraging supplier competence has been a big portion of this ‘green product’ push. Their sustainability management program seeks to improve all operations of suppliers and promotes suppliers’ “competitiveness in sustainability management and identify supply chain risks and address global regulatory requirements” (Bezinga 2017).

This kind of sustainable initiative is far from revolutionary, but rather becoming standard.

While big business is one of the biggest threats to our environment and society at large, there is still less sustainable supply chain initiatives in motion than there should be.

Many large corporations are aware of the road towards sustainable development, but it can take time and money; two things large corporations aren't so fond of.
