Recent study suggests today’s Supply Chains are “complex”

At a logistics and transportation fair in Munich, a few weeks ago, logistics giant Geodis shared findings from their own 2017 supply chain survey that brought together statistics from companies worldwide.

There was an underlying theme of their presentation that hinted that supply chains of today are experiencing large shifts. Digitization and globalization are two factors that were spoken of, as major impacts to the dramatic changes businesses, globally, have seen to the functionality and strategy in a modern supply chain.

It was remarked that “70 percent of the survey’s respondents say their supply chain is either very or extremely complex” (globaltrademag.com 2017).

Outlining supply chain complexity brings to the forefront the demand, and need, for the implementation of innovative strategies and solutions. Supply chains have shifted to a customer-centric focus within strategy and action. Demands on traceability of supply chain operations have become a trending issue to be addressed by globally visible supply chains, which could be the reasoning behind the labeling of “extremely complex” supply chains in today’s marketplace.

The results of this testimony assert the need for seeking the help of 3rd party solutions, and creativity when developing management systems in today’s global supply chains.
