Supply Chain Colab: Apple and Samsung close deal worth $2.6B

Innovation in large-global supply chains proves profitable.

Samsung, market share dominator, is the “only panel maker that mass-produces OLED panels for smartphones” (Korea Herald). They hold a whopping 95% of the market share.

Samsung’s production of the OLED panels is quite innovative for such a globally operational corporation. They, themselves, will manufacture the OLED panels that Apple has recently purchased to be implemented in the all-new iPhone 8.

This collaboration of the two market giants proves that there is few things more profitable than supply chain innovation.

“Apple is reported to have ordered 70M displays from Samsung for the iPhone 8 as part of a three-year deal worth around $2.6B” (9to5Mac 2017).

This project will involve the collaboration of several other large technology giants, such as STEMCO, LG, Interflex and Samsung Electro-Mechanics.

Without strong relationships with supplier bases, this kind of deal probably would have never seen the light of day.

But, it did. And our guess is; it will be a profitable day for Samsung, Apple and all of the collaborative parties/suppliers.
