CAIROLI MXGP 2014 WORLD CHAMPION!

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tony Cairoli sent the fans into a frenzy, as the Italian star sealed his eighth FIM Motocross World Championship title on Sunday in the opening MXGP moto at the Grand Prix of the State of Goias in Brazil.

The penultimate round of the MXGP World Championship was the stage for Tony Cairoli’s eighth title success, where a fifth position in the opening moto gave the Italian-ace enough of an advantage with his 89 championship points, and just 75 still available in the remaining races.

Despite riding with a painful eye injury picked up in Saturday’s qualifying, the Red Bull sponsored athlete rode his KTM 350 SX-F to a 5-3 result on Sunday for third overall.

With the Brazilian fans in a frenzy of excitement and chanting Cairoli’s name, the KTM pilot celebrated his championship success, which was achieved with 15 moto wins, almost a 50 percent win rate, and the Italian now has a total of 13 overall podiums out of 16 so far this season.

Cairoli, who hails from Patti in Sicily, is well known for his unwavering consistency, and once again the 28-year-old has delivered, as throughout this year he has not finished lower than fifth place in a moto. The popular racer is incredibly pleased to have taken his fifth consecutive title with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team and is now one step closer to challenging the ten world titles of Stefan Everts, manager of KTM’s MX2 Factory Racing team.

Cairoli: “When you are a kid you wish for such a thing, but you never think you can do it. It’s hard work, but it gives you back many good things. I managed to finish on the podium in all but three races so far and that was good to achieve points for the season. This was a track that was nice for training, but when you race here there are a lot of big jumps and not many places where you can really ride your bike and make a difference. Now I will go to Mexico and it’s always my goal to win. Then the next big goal is the Motocross of Nations and I will try to be on the podium for the Italian team.”
