New strategies for a changing environment

Women in politics from Libya, Tunisia and Egypt meet

In the aftermaths of the political upheavals in the Arab world, women’s rights have largely fallen by the wayside. On 28-30 November, women and men from political parties , civil society and media meet in Amman/Jordan  to discuss strategies and exchange information about women’s contribution in transition processes.

Organized by International IDEA, Kvinna till Kvinna and The Swedish Institute Alexandria ,the objective of the meeting is to agree on strategies to advocate for the significant participation
by women during the upcoming elections in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt, and to reinforce women’s contribution and image as nation and state builders beyond the parliamentary elections.

These challenges have impacted the constitution building processes in these countries and risk to affect the legal, institution and political reforms which will be led by the new parliaments to be elected in the 3 countries in the year 2014.

More than 30 participants from Egypt, Libya and Tunisia from elected parliaments and constituent
assemblies, political parties, civil society organizations and media will contribute to this regional seminar. Experts from Kosovo, Rwanda and Jordan will contribute to the seminar sharing experiences from their countries.
