Nordisk Vindkraft constructs the 10.8 MW Åmliden II Wind Farm in Västerbotten, Sweden
NV Nordisk Vindkraft AB (Nordisk Vindkraft) confirms that following the completion of development work, the company is now proceeding with the construction of the Åmliden II wind farm, adjacent to the Åmliden I project on the Åmliden mountain in the municipality of Malå, Västerbotten, Sweden.
Nordisk Vindkraft will manage the construction work as well as take on the operational management of the wind farm after commissioning. The wind farm will include six Vestas wind turbines of a rated capacity of 1.8 MW each – a combined installed capacity of 10.8 MW.
The construction of the Åmliden II wind farm has begun with full power generation expected in January 2013. The Åmliden II wind farm has been acquired by HgCapital, a UK-based investment management firm with commercial support from Nordisk Vindkraft. Nordisk Vindkraft is currently also constructing the Åmliden I wind farm for HgCapital. The combined Åmliden I and II wind farms will have a generation capacity of 52.2 MW and provide clean, green electricity for the equivalent of approximately 32 000 households.
Magnus Mattsson, Commercial Manager of Nordisk Vindkraft commented: “The Åmliden II wind farm project is an important milestone for Nordisk Vindkraft as it marks the first time that we after complementary development work are constructing and will subsequently operate a wind farm from outside our own project portfolio. It demonstrates our deepening presence in the Swedish market and our ability to successfully complete the commercial aspects of different types of wind power transactions”
Krister Poole Jönsson, Vice President, Sales for the Nordics and Baltics, Vestas Northern Europe, says: “It is very satisfying to complete the development work for Åmliden II project by adding six V100 1,8MW turbines to the initial 23 turbines of Åmliden I. This marks another milestone with our account customers Nordisk Vindkraft and HgCapital and we are looking forward to how we can further build upon our existing cooperation model in order to continue with successful projects like Åmliden.”
About HgCapital
HgCapital was one of the first UK private equity investors to recognise the opportunities in renewable energy. The firm was an early mover, establishing itself as a market leader in 2004 by building a dedicated energy investment team. In 2006 HgCapital raised the €300 million Hg Renewable Power Partners fund, which was at the time Europe’s largest dedicated fund for renewable power projects. This investment is made by HgCapital’s second renewable energy fund, HgCapital Renewable Power Partners 2. HgCapital invests across a range of renewable power technologies across Western Europe, including wind power, solar, and hydro. While investments range from development stage support to operational projects, the firm has a consistent orientation to invest in the highest quality assets available, and with leading partners.
