Press Invitation: The Syrian Opposition Meets In Stockholm

2011-10-06 14:00

Representatives from the Syrian opposition meet during a conference in Stockholm the 8-9 October. The conference gathers leading representatives from a large range of different opposition parties, ethnic and religious organizations, as well as writers, university teachers, actors and bloggers. About 80 persons are expected to participate.

The conference is called Unify all efforts – to support the freedom of the Syrian people. The meeting takes place in order for the opposition to be able to discuss how they can unite their efforts for democracy and human rights in Syria. The conference is carried out with the support of the Olof Palme International Center.

- Members of the opposition approached us for help to set up a meeting with the opposition's different fractions. They were looking for methods on how to agree on certain issues in order to make progress in their struggle, says Jens Orback, the Secretary General of the Olof Palme International Center.
