Through McKinsey on Society, 141 social entrepreneurs, impact investors and individuals submitted videos that demonstrate how innovative products and business practices can make a difference in solving some of the biggest challenges facing the world today. Issues including widespread drought and environmental degradation, to the human suffering and loss of life on a massive scale that is a direct result from 2.6 billion people who lack access to hygienic sanitation today, are just some of the areas being addressed by companies such as Peepoople in Sweden.

As one of the 11 finalists in the McKinsey Social Innovation Video Contest, Peepoople highlights its mission of providing access to dignified and hygienic sanitation with Peepoo. Peepoo is a single-use, self-sanitising, fully biodegradable toilet that transforms faeces into valuable fertiliser without contaminating or using scarce water resources. During the contest from December 1 – 9, public voting will take place for 11 finalists that have been chosen by McKinsey on Society. Individuals can vote once per day during the video contest. The top three social innovators will be announced on December 12. Winners will be featured in McKinsey’s flagship publication What Matters as well as a television program co-produced with Link TV & Viewchange.org.
