Volunteer blog: Shai Dahan by Marina

The contemporary painter and street artist Shai Dahan flew in from Sweden and has been with us for this past week. He did some magic to our boring, grey, concrete wall that reaches on one side of our premises here in Langa.

He spent around 4-5 days painting and spraying and you would not think it’s the same wall! It looks so fantastic! So colourful and alive, with a touch of both South Africa and Sweden. We are so grateful for this artwork and also to have got to know this wonderful person. The days with Shai have been so much fun, laughing, joking around and sharing stories. We just had such a great time.

Staff members and participants at Project Playground plus some of our Swedish guests helped to paint the background and everybody have been so excited to have Shai here, and it’s been great to see the transformation of the wall.

He also held a class for the children in the creative class, teaching them about spray-painting and then all of the children had the opportunity to spray their own t-shirt.

It is so nice now to walk in to our area and instead of seeing the grey wall, we see all of these beautiful colours.
