Volunteer blog: Visit from Sweden – by Marina

What an amazing week this has been. We had the pleasure to have some of our Swedish partners on visit. I know that all of us at Project Playground really enjoyed it. Everyone of our guests was so open, so genuine and so warm. What a joy, not only for the visitors to actually see and experience Project Playground in action here in Langa but for us to get to know these kindhearted people.

In the beginning of this week they all went to fetch our Play on Wheels participants. Because of the amount of people Play on Wheels had the circle time in the big hall and it was such a big circle with so much joy and energy. After the circle time the sponsors joined the physical therapy for the participants. Then they spent the afternoon with our children and youth, participating in the different Play and Learn classes. The day was full of smiles and laughter.

Project Playgrounds Great Corner, a gang prevention program and Workshadow, a program aiming to help youth to be prepared to the adult life shared their stories and dreams with our guests, which then themselves stood up in front of the youth and shared their stories of how they got to where they are now.

On Thursday we celebrated our 3 year anniversary which truly was great. We had nearly 100 friends and supporters attending, and a lot of kids performing for us. It was a fantastic evening!

What an incredible week we have had but it went by so quickly. The week has been filled with smiles, laughter, inspiration, learning from each other, emotional from time to time and so much more.

Thank you all who participated in this week, the visitors, the staff and all of the children and youth, who made this week to what it was. It truly has been wonderful.
