Volunteer blog: YES by Marina

The Youth Employment Skills (YES) program at the Salesian Institute empowers youth from deprived areas around Cape Town between the ages of 18 and 26 who have a minimum Grade 9 education. They help youth, who are unemployed and come from disadvantaged backgrounds to integrate with the society.

Two of our boys from both the soccer class and The Great Corner group have gotten the opportunity to participate in the YES programme and they started yesterday! Sindile, who is 19 years old are going to participate in a Computer Literacy course while Mzimkhulu who is 20 years old are going to participate in a bricklaying course. They will stay there for two month and only go home during the weekends and everything is free of charge. Parallel with these courses they are going to participate in a Life Skills Program which is about personal development, self-empowerment and business skills. After the two month they will get certificates and help to get employment.
