Invitation: Announcement Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize 2018

You are invited to the announcement of this year’s receiver of the Torsten och Wanja Söderbergs Prize at Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg Thursday 3 May, 12 pm.

Presented for the 24th time, the prize money of SEK 1,000,000 (approximately USD 117,400), makes the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize the largest design prize in the world. The SEK 1 million prize is the largest amount dedicated to any design prize in the world.

Awarded on an annual basis to a Nordic designer whose work demonstrates a sense of curiosity, innovation and originality, the aim is to make a significant financial contribution for a designer to further develop their practice.

The prize sum of SEK 1 million is founded by the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Foundation. This year’s winner will be present at the event, together with, fil.dr.h.c. Tomas Söderberg, the son of the founders of the prize and chair of the foundation, together with the jury chariman of the prize and museum director Nina Due, who will welcome you to the event.

The announcement is held Thursday May 3 May at 12 pm at the Röhsska Museum. Lunch will be served in the café of the museum. There will be time for shorter interviews and on-site photography with the prize winner.

About the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg PrizeThe Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize was founded by the Torsten and Ragnar Söderberg Foundations to commemorate the centenary of Torsten Söderberg’s birth. It was first awarded in 1994, when he would have celebrated his hundredth birthday.

The purpose of the prize is to promote art, crafts and design in the Nordic region and to strengthen Nordic collegial partnerships.

The home of the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize is Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, and it is awarded annually at a ceremony on 4 November, Torsten Söderberg’s birthdate.
